Inner Mongolia is the Mongol Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China, located in the country's north. Inner Mongolia's neighboring provinces from east to west are Heilongjiang, Jilin, Hebei, Shanxi, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region and Gansu, and to the north it borders Mongolia and Russia. Inner Mongolia is the third-largest subdivision of China spanning about 1,200,000 square kilometers or twelve percent of China's land area. Its capital city is Hohhot, and major cities include Hohhot, Baotou, Wuhai, Chifeng, Hulunbuir, Tongliao and Ordos.

Travel from Beijing to Inner Mongolia by Air
The easiest & time saving way to get to Inner Mongolia is taking flight. Flights from the Chinese capital to Huhhot’s Baita International Airport take around 45 minutes. Baita International Airport opened its new terminal in June 2007 with 11 new parking jetways. Arriving visitors are greeted with big skies that frame the sturdy mountains, and sharp, clean air. Air China, China Southern and China Eastern all fly between Beijing and Huhhot -Air China offers the most frequent schedule. Flights to Baotou are available with Air China as well as China Eastern and Shenzhen airlines. Don’t expect to be fed on the one-hour flight from Beijing to Baotou.

Travel from Beijing to Inner Mongolia by Bus
Long distance bus to reach Hohhot city, Inner Mongolia is available from Beijing, the bus departs from Liuliqiao Station which located A1, Liuliqiao Nan Li, Fengtai District. It will be a long journey from Beijing to Inner Mongolia by bus, it takes around 8 hours for one way and cost CNY150.


Transport within Inner Mongolia
The easiest way to travel between cities in Inner Mongolia is by bus. Some travelers also choose to hire a driver to get to Inner Mongolia’s main attractions. Most hotels or hostels should be able to help you do this. It is also possible to travel by train between Hohhot and Baotou. The journey takes one hour and twenty minutes and costs about 25 Yuan on a hard seat.
