Pick up service is arranged at your Jilin hotel or Jilin train station, you will find a welcome signage "Jilin Private Tour". And transfer you to Changbai Mountain, it takes around 4-5 hours for one way. Upon arrival, your tour guide will help you check in, the rest of the day is free on your own or have a rest.
In the morning, your exciting Changbai Mountain starts. Changbai Shan is a piece of heaven, and it certainly lives up to its name, which means "Ever-White Mountain." Budding nature scientists will be in a proverbial paradise as they explore the explosion of animal, insect and plant life on this dormant volcano, which is also China's largest nature reserve. This 210,000ha of dense virgin forest lies on the border of China's Jilin Province and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). Created in 1961, the nature reserve is home to one of the most diverse mountain-forest ecosystems in Asia. Evergreen species like Korean pines and Japanese yews share the slopes with Mongolian oaks, dwarf birch and other deciduous trees.
Tianchi (Heavenly Lake)
A visit to the famous Tianchi Lake at the top of the main peak is a must for tourists all year as it is the most beautiful part of Changbai Mountain in China. The lake was formed in the crater of the mountain, and it is the source of the Songhua, Tumen and Yalu Rivers. The mountain is also the cradle of Manchu, Korean and Han nationalities. The altitude of the Heavenly Lake is 2,189 meters (about 7,182 ft), and so the average temperature is 7.3°C (45.14°F). If you choose the northern round, you will have the chance to appreciate the Heifengkou Pass, well known for its wild whirlwinds. The only way to reach the pass is by crawling, yet no one avoids the Hefengkou Pass, as it is the only place where you can have a full view of the magnificent Changbaishan Waterfall. Do not miss it.
Changbai Waterfall
The waterfall is sited in North Slope. It is a crater lake waterfall with the largest water drop – 68 meters. Heaven Lake is usually frozen over until late June or July, thus, the water flowing over is reduced in winter months, but it is never completely frozen over as the lake drains from depth below the ice and the water is geothermally heated beneath all year around. The walking path from the waterfall to the Heaven Lake is closed, so you can walk directly to reach there after your Heaven Lake. It is less crowded in the afternoon hours.
Julongquan Hot Spring
Julongquan Hot Spring is located 900m north of Changbaishan Waterfall, it has dozens mouths, which are scattered throughout an area of 1 square km and gush hot water continuously. Because of Chemical gases contained in the spring water, the volcanic rocks surrounding the spring are of different colors, including golden, blue, red and green. Favourable elements and minerals in the water bestow the spring medicinal values. Both in the hot spring in cold weather proves to be refreshing and enjoyable. Julongquan Hot Spring is an extremely hot spring with the scope of 62 to 82 degrees centigrade.
