At the end of October, I had the pleasure of visiting the Badaling section of the Great Wall on a bright and sunny day. The weather was perfect, making it an ideal time to explore this iconic landmark. The wall is quite steep, featuring slanted rocks and uneven steps, so a certain level of fitness is necessary for the climb. However, the breathtaking views make the effort completely worthwhile! Riding the tram to the wall certainly eases the ascent.

This was my second visit to the Great Wall; my first was back in 2015. The air quality was significantly improved this time, allowing for stunning visibility of the wall winding across the mountains—truly a majestic sight. There is so much rich history to discover in this remarkable place. I also found that visiting on a weekday meant fewer crowds, which was a delightful advantage.

Don’t forget to bring plenty of water! If you’re over 60, you can enjoy free admission, so be sure to have your passport handy. Near the tram entrance, there were vendors selling ice cream, medals for climbers, and various other souvenirs to commemorate your visit.
